With our experienced staff and fleet of vehicles, we are able to meet telephone and power construction needs from concept through to reality.Fleet Inspector-Boom Truck Emphasis – Thayer Power & Communication is seeking an experienced Fleet Inspector who is responsible for inspecting, auditing, and monitoring the condition, safety, and compliance of company fleet assets, with a primary focus on boom trucks, bucket trucks, cranes, and aerial lift equipment. This role ensures all vehicles and equipment meet DOT, OSHA, ANSI, and company safety standards, minimizing downtime and supporting safe field operations.Fleet & Boom Equipment InspectionsPerform routine and documented inspections of boom trucks, bucket trucks, cranes, and related aerial equipmentInspect hydraulic systems, booms, outriggers, controls, safety devices, load charts, and structural componentsVerify ANSI A92, OSHA, DOT, and manufacturer compliance for aerial and lifting equipmentIdentify mechanical, safety, and compliance deficiencies and document findingsCompliance & DocumentationMaintain inspection records, certifications, and compliance documentationCoordinate required annual, periodic, and post-repair inspectionsSupport DOT audits, OSHA inspections, and internal safety reviewsEnsure vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs) are completed and addressedMaintenance CoordinationWork closely with fleet maintenance, vendors, and operations to schedule repairsRecommend equipment removal from service when safety concerns are identifiedVerify repairs and corrective actions are completed properlySafety SupportSupport safety initiatives related to fleet and heavy equipment useProvide feedback and guidance to operators on proper boom truck operation and pre-trip inspectionsAssist with incident investigations involving fleet or boom equipmentField & Yard AuditsConduct site and yard audits to assess equipment condition and usageTravel to job sites to inspect in-service equipment as neededQualifications:Required3+ years of experience inspecting or maintaining boom trucks, bucket trucks, cranes, or heavy equipmentStrong knowledge of aerial lift and boom truck systemsFamiliarity with DOT, OSHA, and ANSI A92 standardsAbility to read load charts, inspection checklists, and manufacturer manualsValid driver's license (CDL preferred or required, depending on fleet)PreferredCertified Boom/Crane Inspector or OEM inspection trainingCDL Class A or BBackground in utilities, telecommunications, powerline, or construction industriesExperience with fleet management or maintenance softwareStrong attention to detail and safety mindsetClear documentation and reporting skillsAbility to work independently in the fieldStrong communication with mechanics, operators, and managementComfortable working around heavy equipment and job sitesPhysical RequirementsAbility to climb, kneel, bend, and access equipment componentsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs as requiredCombination of shop, yard, and active job site environmentsExposure to heavy equipment, noise, and outdoor conditionsThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
